CITY OF EASTON, TEXAS
GENERAL ORDINANCE OF THE CITY

CHAPTER 2
ADMINISTRATION
ARTICLE I. CITY COUNCIL
Section 2.1 Form of Government
The municipal government of the city shall consist of a City Council composed of the Mayor and five (5) councilmen, who shall be elected at large by the qualified voters of the city for a two year term.
Section 2.2 Date of Elections
All elections for City Council members shall be held on the first Saturday in April of each year. Such city elections shall be operated in compliance with State law.
Section 2.3 Location of Elections
The Mayor shall have the authority to select the place for the city election to be held.
Section 2.4 Tenure of Office
There shall be two (2) year staggered terms for the offices of Mayor and the five (5) council members. The Mayor and two (2) council members shall be elected for two (2) year terms on odd numbered years. The remaining three (3) council members shall be elected for two (2) year terms on even numbered years.
Section 2.5 Filing for Office
All candidates for the office of City Council or Mayor shall file their name with the City Secretary at least thirty (30) days prior to election to be held in April, if he or she wishes his or her name printed on the election ballot.
Section 2.6 Compensation for City Council and Mayor
All City Council members, including the Mayor, shall serve the city at a compensation level to be decided by the City Council during budget preparation. There shall be an allowance to cover travel expenses necessary for the conducting of city business.
Section 2.7 Regular Council Meting Day and Time
The City Council shall meet at least once a month on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
Section 2.8 Special Meetings
Special meetings of the City Council may be call at any time by the Mayor as he shall deem necessary.
Section 2.9 Emergency Meetings
Emergency meetings of the City Council may be called at any time by the Mayor as he shall deem necessary.
Section 2.10 Quorum of Council
A quorum of the City Council will consist either of the Mayor and three (3) council members, or four (4) concil members.
